When two esteemed, retired physicians decided it was time to enjoy their next chapter, they were torn between the desire for a fresh start and the deep roots they had established in the home where they raised their family of five. Rather than leave behind decades of memories, they entrusted Laure Nell Interiors with a full-scale renovation – one that would honor the home’s history while completely transforming it for modern living.
We stripped the house down to its studs, reimagining the layout to eliminate outdated, constricting elements and make way for contemporary elegance. At the heart of the renovation is a spacious, chef-worthy kitchen designed for their shared love of cooking and entertaining. The living room was elevated into a luxurious gathering space, anchored by a grand piano for musical evenings with family and friends. An outdated wooden staircase was replaced with a sleek, sculptural plastered centerpiece – now a defining architectural feature of the home.
In the family room, we filled in the sunken bar to create a seamless floorplan that now serves as both an elegant bar area and a cozy TV lounge. Upstairs, we added a generous loft designed as a play haven for the grandchildren, reinforcing the home’s multi-generational functionality.
Every detail was approached with beauty and livability in mind. For furnishings, we selected high-end pieces with soft, curved silhouettes to promote ease of movement and a sense of visual warmth. The couple’s existing art collection was thoughtfully integrated – refreshed through reframing and recontextualized with new lighting. We also sourced unique, artisanal pieces, collaborating with Asian artists as a tribute to the family’s meaningful connection to China, where two of their children – a son and a daughter – were adopted. Their personal collection of ancient artifacts – including archaeological treasures and original Latin American art – was prominently displayed, creating a space that feels as curated as it is deeply personal.
The result is a home that exudes quiet luxury, cultural richness, and emotional resonance – perfectly tailored for a new chapter while honoring a lifetime of memories.
